Red Rock Running Company Long Runs!

Whether you are a beginner runner looking to make it to the finish line of your first marathon, or an experienced marathon runner looking to spice up your training, we’ve got a free alternative to a marathon training program.

In addition to our regular 5:30pm No Whining Wednesday night tempo runs, starting July 11th we will now offer a Saturday long run at 7:30 am* (starting September 5th at 6:00am). With a tempo/speed work done on Wednesday, the dreaded long run (not so lonely anymore!) on Saturday, and a few extra days during the week on your own, you’ve got yourself a training program.

Not only will you get a chance to meet people, make friends and train, we will also offer monthly free seminars covering a variety of different topics to help get you to the start and finish of the marathon. And if that’s not enough of an incentive for you, there will also be more free goodies throughout the weeks to make it worth running all those miles and sticking to a training schedule.

So put on your running shoes, grab your water bottle, and come join us. Hope to see you soon!

*The store will temporarily open at 7:00 am, so if you need to buy a few gels for the run you can do so at that time, and then reopen at 9:30 am (normal business hours 10 am-5pm) for those participates who may need a place to cool down, refill water, or buy some supplies for their other weekly runs. A table outside the store will provide water and heed to fill up your water bottles before and during the run.

Western States Endurance Run

In 1955, 5 horsemen and their horses rode across the Western States trail to prove that they could cover 100 miles in one day. The trek became known as the Tevis Cup "100 mile-1 day" ride. In 1974, Gordon Ainsleigh joined them to prove that you could do the same on foot. It took him 23 hours and 42 minutes. In 1977, the Western States Endurance run was born. 14 men from 4 different states competed. Only three men finished the race. The following year, the race broke away from the Tevis Cup and was held a month earlier. The race adopted 21 aide stations and 6 medical tents. There were 63 competitors that year, including Pat Smythe who was the first women to complete the course; with a time of 29:34.

The 36th Western States Endurance Run is being held this Saturday.

Good Luck to Josh Brimhall and Casey Harney, and all the other runners who are competing!

Congratulations to Stephen Morgan

Running in a Skort

By: Katie
I've always been against skirts, not just running skirts, but skirts in general. Last year I read an article devoted to running skirts. As I read it, the thought of running in a skirt was burned into my head with a solid "NO!"
I stayed with my shorts as women continued to buy skirts and they rose in popularity. I clutched to them even as Juliet and Regan tried to convince me otherwise. Yet, I stuck to my shorts, in my mind, skirts just weren't for me.
However, recently while contemplating what to write next for the blog, I walked by a skirt and the thought, "How about trying out a skirt versus your beloved shorts?" popped into my head. I toyed with the idea for a few moments, then grabbed a few different types to try on. I finally settled on the Moving Comfort Endurance Skort, and bought it before I could change my mind.
So the following day I challenged myself to wear the skirt out on a run, I slid it on.Even though it was the same length of my favorite pair of shorts, I still felt as if it was more revealing.
All throughout the first mile I felt as if each car that drove by was staying and commenting about this girl running alongside of the road in a skirt, what must she be thinking?!
Yet as the miles continued my paranoia faded and I began to feel how free a skirt feels I became more comfortable with it. It had a similar feeling to that of running in a pair of spandex, yet has much more covering than a normal pair of spandex.
While I have changed my mind about running in skirts, I still prefer my shorts. But I see it as a similarity between wearing the same pair of running shoes and how it feels like home. So while my shorts are like home, my skirt has definitely become like a vacation home that I will visit quite often.
